Review: Korpiklaani — Toronto, ON — April 13, 2024

Finish folk metal superstars hit the pheonix concert theatre in Toronto with a full house this week on April 13th, as part of their North American headline tour. Supported by Swiss rock band Illumishade, and the sailors Visions of Atlantis. This was the perfect bill for those who enjoy hints of sea chants, folk, and metal.

Korpiklaani set the tone by opening up with classics “Wooden Pints” a staple from their first 2003 album, and “Man With a Plan” to energize the crowd. For the night, the venue was transformed into a medieval tavern as the crowd united in beer drinking, yoiking, and even some circle dancing.

Korpiklaani seamlessly tied in the shaman drum during their performance. Giving a taste of their traditional Norden roots blended in with modern metal.

The concert was a great mix of upbeat Finnish folk songs, melodic tunes, crowd chanting and partying. The band was able to pragmatically switch the pace from slow and steady, to an uproar when it was time for an encore. After chants of “Vodka, Vodka, Vodka” came from fans who weren’t ready to leave just yet - Korpiklaani delivered, and the energy at the end was intoxicating as they wrapped up with “Tequila”.

Their new album “Rankarumpu” is available now. The concert was put on by Inertia Entertainment.
